There is a competition called JLAB, Junior Leadership and Academic Bowl. There is the leadership team and the academic team.
My leadership team (Which I'm in, by the way) got 1st place in nationals (OUT OF THE WHOLE WORLD)!!!
Over 1000 teams competed, only 48 are selected. That means .1% (One TENTH of ONE percent) gets to go to the finals.
We went to the finals.
AND we got FIRST out of the WHOLE WORLD.
PLUS, our academic team got SECOND out of the WHOLE WORLD.
AND only 24 academic teams get to go to finals (compared to the 48 leadership teams that go)
FUN FACT: my ROTC was ONE out of FOUR in the WHOLE WORLD where BOTH the leadership team and academic team went to the finals.
ANOTHER FUN FACT: The finals are at Washington D.C. We get a plane flight there, spend like 3 days touring around (GET TO GO IN THE WHITE HOUSE), and like 2 days competing. That's about 7 days. ALL PAID FOR BY THE GOVERNMENT.
Don't believe me?

what's ROTC??? like rules of the clan or something? Yes and no. ROTC is the Reserve Officers Training Corps. It's a military funded organization. In Junior ROTC (what it is for high school) you learn how to become a better citizen, leader, as well as learn some military knowledge (ex. Map reading, marching, ranks, first aid, discipline, etc) So, things like the Chain of Command, yes I have derived that from my ROTC knowledge, as well as applied all that I have learned onto my daily life. As well as the organization skills and leadership skills I learned I use in the clan. Here's a quick lesson. There's no one right way of leading. You have to adapt to the situation and act accordingly. I also know plenty of ROTC knowledge verbatim (word for word) out of the book. Now, I'm not no bad A army guy or something, but if you take ROTC seriously, you benefit greatly from it. It's already only my 3rd year in ROTC (and I'm gonna be a senior) and I'm already a 1st lieutenant. You also do SOME physical stuff, but it's only for like a month before cadet challenge, as well as if we play games outside. If you're on a team like the PT(physical training) team, or the Drill (tossing rifles) team, then you have practice almost every school day. (but I got tennis) You have to be in it and experience it to truly know what I'm talking about. And this is only a fraction of what I can(and feel like) explaining. I already learned how to command and take charge of a platoon (2 squads, I had about 10 cadets to take care of) which gives me some experience already. I'm going to be the Charlie Company ( we have 4 companies, Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, and Delta, and a company consists of 2 platoons and a headquarters) Executive Officer. There's a Company Commander and the Company 1st Sergeant. I'm above the 1SG, but below the CCM. (even though I'm the same rank as the CCM) You see?

so your not really an officer going to war but they are training u as if you were one? It's not like basic training. It's more like officer training school (OTS) for highschool. ROTC for college is the one where it pays for your school (ROTC scholarship) and you graduate as a 2nd lieutenant (O-1 AKA "Butter Bar") in whatever branch of ROTC you did. And you have to serve 4 years. But usually college grads (especially ROTC officer grads) get real jobs here in the states. I want to be an Aerospace Engineer in the Air Force.
